Chaos at Howe Community Park Wounds 4 Shot in Arden-Arcade Sacramento

Sacramento County deputies are probing a gunfire incident that broke out Home Depot Sacramento shooting Saturday night April 18 at the Howe Community Park area at the time officers were dispersing an unauthorized event of several hundred people.

Background

Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office first arrived at Howe Park just after 6:30 PM on April 18 after getting calls of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Soon after, a follow-up call was made describing a possible physical fight breaking out within the park grounds.

Aerial units conducted an aerial sweep but reported no active disturbance. Even so, it was apparent that an enormous crowd had congregated at Howe Park without official sanction.

The Shooting Itself

Deputies moved to clear the area by positioning themselves around the crowd and using their vehicle PA systems directing those gathered to leave immediately. Roughly 15 minutes were provided for the gathering to break up.

While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that 20 to 25 gunshots cut through the air. The rapid succession of shots sent the crowd running in all directions. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies quickly moved to looking for those injured.

Four People Shot

Altogether, four victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The four individuals — comprising three men and one woman ranging in age through their in their twenties — were brought to nearby hospitals. Medical teams reported that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. As of last report, all four were in stable condition.

Sacramento Metro Fire were called to the scene and helped triage the injured before they were taken to the hospital.

Crime Scene Evidence

The primary shooting scene was confirmed to have been concentrated on Cottage Way alongside the Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Crime scene investigators discovered further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings on Cottage Way. Bullet holes were observed in the wrought iron fence surrounding the Home Depot. These findings pointed to that a shooter had been sending rounds south from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot store. That Home Depot location was put under lockdown during the incident. CSI investigators and detectives worked tirelessly late into the evening.

Suspects Detained

Details gathered via scanner audio indicated that a suspect Kia was pulled over in nearby Solano County. Four detainees were detained. Law enforcement units were traveling to Solano County to pick up those detained for investigation. Video evidence established that there were two gunmen.
